The battle is over

My beautiful Aunt Miriam Richardson lost her fight with breast cancer this past week. Since her diagnosis, her spirit was always full of light and love. Whenever I spoke with her, she was upbeat and positive (even when she probably didn't feel too good). In her voice was the unspoken message, to not feel sorry for her. She took her chemo, she traveled, she enjoyed her family and she was a blessing to every life she touched. There was a time that we thought the cancer was in remission and we could breathe a sigh of relief. As time continued the cancer metastasized and though the news wasn't good, her faith kept her strong and she faced her fight with strength and dignity. She was an example of living life to the fullest and caring for others.

The gathering of her family and friends from far and wide will be a testimony to the life of a wonderful spirit in the person of my Aunt Miriam.

I've found some fascinating information!

I was over on the Breast Health Projects facebook  page and Daya posted this link to a great talk from Dr. William Li, President of the Angiogenesis Foundation. He was explaining angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the process that the body uses to grow blood vessels for different purposes at different times. "Abnormal blood vessel growth, either excessive or insufficient, is now recognized as a “common denominator” underlying many deadly and debilitating conditions, including cancer, skin diseases, age-related blindness, diabetic ulcers, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and many others. The list of diseases that have angiogenesis as an underlying mechanism grows longer every year". The main thrust of the talk was about food being a preventative for cancer. In the infinite wisdom of our creator, an array of foods, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs can heal the body from illness and dis-ease. It's my opinion that many processed foods laced with chemicals and preservatives could be the cause of many illnesses and dis-eases.

Here is a list of foods that are antiangiogenic. And if what the doctor says is true about synergistic foods, then if I combine, let’s say (a big favorite of mine) red wine and dark chocolate then I'm doing my body a favor. I'm also ordering the sencha tea and jasmine tea from Vitacost. I already knew about the Sencha tea being one of the best of the green teas from a great book I have in my collection Foods to Fight Cancer. I can get a box of 100 pks of green tea for about $5.00 at my local Asian market or Big Lots but it's not going to give me the health benefits that I'm drinking it for in the first place. Green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants. Japanese green tea contains more EGCG than Chinese teas. So if you're drinking these canned or bottled green teas from the grocery store with over 20 grams of sugar per serving and call yourself doing something good for your body, it's absolutely useless. Sorry :)

At any rate, I thought I'd share this video with you. I hope you find it informative. You are what you eat! I'm guilty of not always doing the right thing in the food department, so this is a challenge to myself as well.
