Keep It Moving!

What I mean by It is:1. your lymphatic system 2. your breasts 3. your body (through exercise) 4. your energy (your thoughts and feelings, your vibe)

In order for IT to move, we have to move. Unlike the circulatory system which moves on its own, the lymphatic systems movement is dependent upon our movement. It is comprised of lymph vessels, lymph fluid and lymph nodes. The lymph vessels carry the lymph fluid (toward the heart) to the lymph nodes which trap bacteria, cancer cells and other toxic substances that may be in the lymphatic system. The reason this is so important to breast health is because we have lymphatic vessels in the breast which connect to lymph nodes under the arm, inside the chest and above and below the collarbone. Lymph nodes are throughout the body, but for now we're going to concentrate on the ones that affect our breast health.

As women most of us are in bras all day. The restriction leaves little room or time for breast movement. Several health conditions have been associated with the use of underwire bras, such as breast pain, breast infection during lactation, and allergic reactions to the metal underwire. And there are some women who have sensitivities to the chemicals in deodorants. They break out in rashes and boils. The aluminum salts in the deodorants block sweat glands. There are theories about breast cancer and underwire bras and deodorants. I'm not sure if they are the cause or not. I do know our bodies are bombarded with toxins from so many sources. Restriction and lymph flow don't play well together.

We've got to Keep It Moving girls!

Breast massage is easy, it's natural and something you can do for yourself. Become familiar with the feel of your breast daily, not just once a month when you're doing your self breast exam. We want to be EMPOWERED, not helpless as to our breast health.. Daya Fisch, has a wonderful website chock full of information to help understand and see how simple this is. The video above this post is an example of Lymphatic Breast Massage. There are other ways to massage and we'll talk about that at a later time.

What is Holistic? (and disclaimer)

A holistic approach is one that incorporates the mind, body and spirit of an individual. Many times it’s the food we eat, the stresses we have and/or the way that we think as to the reason we have dis-eases in the body. Sometimes, it’s neither one of those things. As we take responsibility for our wellness, we will want to educate ourselves about our bodies/ourselves and decide what step we need to take for our health. That may mean different things to different people. There are a lot of experts and so-called experts out there and the information may seem conflicting. When it’s all said and done, it’s our journey and our responsibility. Any information that I provide is just that, information. I may believe wholeheartedly in something, and I may  incorporate that “thing” in my lifestyle. My disclaimer is to check it out for yourselves and do the research. I’m not a doctor, but just a regular information seeking girl who doesn’t want to give  ALL of her power over the medical establishment.

This is my first attempt at creating a blog so please bear with me (I'm learning this "blog thing" as I go). My intention is to bring information about holistic breast health and other self care techniques.  I hope to add some humor and spice and make this a place where we can share. I encourage your comments.
